An introduction to what you need to know about event planning and how to make your next event a success.

Are you in the process of planning an event? Regardless of your approach, you know you are taking on a giant responsibility. For this reason, you have to get organized as soon as possible. This will ensure that you stay on the right track, make the best decisions, and put together an event everybody will enjoy.

Here are five points to consider:

1. Start early and well in advance. The sooner you begin the planning process the better off you are going to be. If you are stuck with a tight deadline there is no time to feel sorry for yourself. You have a high-impact event to plan. As you get started you will begin to realize that you have what it takes to get the job done.

2. Call on the help of others. Even though you may be the type who wants to “do it all,” this is not always the best approach when planning an event. By bringing in outside help, you can obtain assistance in a variety of key areas of event planning including but not limited to:

* Setting up the event
* Obtaining sponsorships
* Event day management
* Temporary staffing support

3. Budget vs. costs. What is your budget for the event? Are you confident in your ability to stay within this number? You must focus on your budget and estimated costs the first chance you get. This way you don’t find yourself in a bind down the line, having to cut back in areas that are important to you.

4. Marketing, marketing, and more marketing. This is a basic of the event planning process, however, some people overlook this detail altogether. How are others going to know about your event? How are you going to ensure that you get the most “bang for your buck” when the big day arrives? There are companies, such as Tigris, that can assist with every detail of your marketing plan.

5. Do something that sets your event apart. From product sampling to a full experiential marketing campaign, consider the steps you can take to make your event wow the audience. Remember, you are not the only game in town. You are not the only company that has ever organized an event. Every decision you make is likely to be compared against what somebody else is doing. How are you going to stand out in the crowd?

Now that you have a better idea of some of the basics associated with event planning, the time has come for you to dive deeper and decide which steps you are going to take next.

Despite all the stress, it can be a lot of fun to plan an event. With the right approach, plenty of help, and some creative thinking, your next event could exceed your expectations. Event planning 101, another area of our expertise so don’t hesitate to touch base with questions!
