Sports Marketing During the 2014 Winter Olympic Games!

This year, sports marketing advertisers spent $1 billion on the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Why? Simple – for the 23.7 million people who watched prime time coverage. McDonald’s, Proctor & Gamble, Coca-Cola, Acer, Dow Chemical, Visa, General Electric, Atos, Omega SA, Panasonic and Samsung were the TOP sports marketing Olympic sponsors.  Each sponsor made  major headway against their direct competitors through the association between their brands and the world-renowned game sports fans waited four years to see.

The Russian Federation hosted the largest major international multi-sport event in their third largest region Krasnodar in Sochi for the XXII Olympic Winter Games. The games utilized sports marketing initiatives and were organized in two groups: a coastal cluster for ice events in Sochi, and a mountain cluster located in the Krasnaya Polyana Mountains. This made it one of the most compact Games ever, with around 30 minutes travel time from the coastal to mountain cluster.

Contestants competed on Sochi’s Olympic park riding along the Black Sea coast in the Imeretinskaya Valley, where all the ice venues such as the Bolshoi Ice Palace, the Maly Ice Palace, the Olympic Oval, the Sochi Olympic Skating Centre, the Olympic Curling Centre, the Central Stadium, the Main Olympic Village and the International Broadcast Centre and Main Press Centre, were built anew for the 2014 Games.
